The Bay Regatta
Ao Po Grand Marina · Varies by year, typically late January to early March (2027 edition announced for 3 to 7 March)
The Bay Regatta is a four-day passage-racing event sailing every year through three Thai provinces (Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi), organised since 1998 by Regattas Asia. The fleet starts just off Ao Po Grand Marina, on Phuket's east coast, following registration, the skippers' briefing and an opening party at the nearby Supalai Scenic Bay resort. Split into several classes (Performance Monohulls, IRC Racing, Monohull Cruising, OMR Multihulls and Cruising Multihulls), the fleet then sails through the karst scenery of Phang Nga Bay towards Koh Yao Yai and the Krabi area, with an evening party and prize-giving at each stopover. Often nicknamed the FUN Regatta for its relaxed atmosphere, it typically gathers thirty to fifty yachts each year. According to the official website, the organisers kept the regatta running every year without interruption throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, while many other sailing events in the region were cancelled.
