Capella Singapore occupies a former British officers' mess built in the 1880s on Sentosa Island, a few minutes' drive from ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove. Gazetted for conservation in 2000 and restored in 2006, the building was the setting for an episode documented by Singapore's official heritage authority (roots.gov.sg): before the surrender of 15 February 1942, British officers are said to have buried the regimental silver on the lawn to keep it from Japanese forces - some was recovered in Malaysia in 1950, the rest never was. The hotel's Capella Culturist team builds bespoke heritage itineraries around this historic building on direct request. A way to explore Sentosa's colonial history in a small group, off the standard tourist circuit.
