Villa Kerylos, access outside public hours

A reconstructed Greek house at the water's edge in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, opening its rooms and gardens for a private visit outside public hours.

Built in the early twentieth century by the hellenist Theodore Reinach, Villa Kerylos is a scholarly reconstruction of a Greek house from the island of Delos, set on a rocky point facing the bay. Mosaics, marbles, frescoes and furniture were executed after ancient models, with no concession to decorative pastiche.

The monument, run within the national monuments network, opens several of its spaces to privatisation: the peristyle, the terrace, the andron, the gallery of antiquities, the triklinos, the gardens and the conference room. The format of most interest to a crew remains the private visit held outside opening hours, in an empty villa. The house stands beside the marina at Beaulieu, a few minutes from the bay of Villefranche along the coast road.
