Mamiku Gardens, a family-run botanical garden in south-east Saint Lucia

A historic estate dating back to 1766, turned into a botanical garden by the Shingleton-Smith family, offering four guided tour formats including a rum tasting.

The Mamiku estate, at Mon Repos/Praslin (Micoud district), dates back to a 1766 land grant to the Baron de Micoud. Bought in 1906 by Henry Martin Shingleton-Smith, it has been run by his family ever since; the present garden was created by landscape designer Veronica Shingleton-Smith and opened in December 1997. The estate offers four guided formats: birdwatching, a walk through the former plantation, a garden-lovers' tour and a rum tasting. The site also preserves the remains of a British military post established in 1796.
