Bordeaux Voiles

Bordeaux Voiles has practised the master sailmaker's trade in Bordeaux since 1994. The workshop occupies the Les Ateliers du Bassin building in the zone technique du Bassin n°2 and is led by Corinne Bardou, master sailmaker. The company covers the making and repair of cruising and racing sails, deck canvas protections, the supply of furlers and deck hardware, and a range of bespoke outdoor fabrics for the home, the garden and the terrace.

Mainsails are made on site, in horizontal cut and first grade high tenacity polyester Dacron, the cloth weight being matched to the sailing programme and to the boat builder's recommendations. They come with two reef bands, polyester battens, telltales, oriented reinforcements, a loose foot with leech line and cleat, a battened head board, stainless steel eyelets and rings, zigzag stitching in UV treated thread and a clew webbing. A third reef, batten tensioning, the choice of slides and bolt rope and a cunningham are among the options, and every sail is delivered in its bag, ready to sail.

Headsails range from the genoa to the furling genoa, and downwind sails cover the tri radial symmetric spinnaker, the asymmetric spinnaker and the gennaker, completed by the Maxigen Code Zero designed by the loft to offer a wide range of use, from around 60 degrees to a broad reach. ATN spinnaker socks are also available. On the equipment side, the workshop advises on and supplies Facnor, Profurl and Plastimo genoa furlers, top down furlers for jibs and gennakers, and in mast or in boom mainsail furlers, together with the matching lazy bags, lazy jacks and boom covers.

The outdoor canvas department makes bespoke mooring, winter and sun awnings, biminis, sprayhoods, companionway covers and cabriolet hoods, in dralon or PVC, fitted to the boat's stainless steel or aluminium frames. Sail servicing and repair are carried out within short lead times. The same craft is applied ashore with PVC tarpaulins, shade fabrics and shade sails and terrace covers, studied project by project.
