Carènes Services is a boatyard located at the Pointe Rouge marina in Marseille, close to the Calanques and the Riou and Frioul archipelagos. Staffed by a team of qualified technicians, it offers comprehensive, environmentally minded and tailored care. Its 3,000 sq m careening area, next to the chandlery and the nautical shops, was brought up to environmental standards after four months of works financially supported by the Agence de l'Eau and the Région Sud.

Lifting is handled by a 30-tonne boat hoist and a 9-tonne forklift, mast stepping and unstepping by a mobile mast crane. The yard holds around fifty boats, motor craft and sailing yachts, chocked on cradles. Careening covers high-pressure cleaning of the underwater hull, stripping of shaft lines, propellers, flaps and drives, then application of an International or Boero range antifouling matched to the substrate, usually within 48 hours.

The yard has equipped itself with a heated and ventilated spray booth able to take vessels up to 15 metres. Hull painting combines fine sanding with filler touch-up, application of a primer, then two coats of two-pack enamel and fitting of the new decals, with polishing completing the job. Osmosis treatment builds on more than 500 boats treated preventively and 120 curative treatments: diagnosis is made by measuring the moisture level, preventive work uses 3 to 5 coats of solvent-based epoxy and 2 coats of antifouling, and curative work follows the procedure specified by Gelshield International. Two laminators specialising in polyester and composites build bathing platforms, modify sailing yacht sugar scoops, laminate keels and carry out post-damage repairs.

The yard also fits equipment, from electronics such as sounders and logs to flaps, windlasses and bow thrusters, and carries out marine mechanics and stainless steel and aluminium work. The adjoining chandlery supplies antifouling, paints, deck hardware and maintenance items. The dry port takes motor boats under 8 metres, with one launch and one haul-out per day and access seven days a week. The RFAE and Engagé pour l'eau labels are displayed on the website.
