Founded in 1989, Sails Concept is a sail loft located at 6871 route de la Madeleine, zone du Landy, in Theix, Morbihan, right next to Vannes. The Vannes-area workshop has a 700 sqm production floor, recent equipment and a team that upholds craft know-how. More than 600 sails are produced there each year, from the Optimist to 60 footers, exclusively in the company's own workshops.
The loft relies on an in-house design office. Every sail is drawn to measure using dedicated design tools, notably SailsPack and AutoCad. The team travels to the boat to take measurements, then draws the sheeting points and the rig in three dimensions. The CAD software is used to triangulate the sail according to the specification and the boat, adjusting the placement of volume and the twist. Once the drawing is approved, it serves as the template for cutting the different panels on a laser cutting machine. This in-house design office ensures the project is followed from design to build, with quality control from measuring on board through to the finishing.
The range covers the whole sail plan. Mainsails: furling, racing, fully battened full batten and semi-battened versions. Headsails: furling genoa, racing genoa and tri-radial furling genoa. Downwind sails: Code 0, gennaker, symmetric spinnaker, asymmetric spinnaker and furling spinnaker. Accessories round out the offer with spinnaker sock, boom cover, lazy bag and genoa cover. An online customisation module lets clients colour their sails to their own preferences.
Cloth selection is matched to the sailing programme: high-tenacity polyester in cross cut for cruising, Hydranet, Pentex and Hybrid Fibercon for long-distance cruising, and Pentex laminates, aramid and membranes in oriented cut for offshore and inshore racing programmes, Osiris, IRC and one-design. Cloths are offered in laminate or woven form, in horizontal or tri-radial cut. The company also provides a repair and maintenance service for sails and accessories, and works with each client to define a solution and a budget suited to their programme.
