Neiafu (Vava'u)

Neiafu, Vava'u, Vava'u, TO

The port

Official port of entry for the Vava'u archipelago, Tonga, anchorage and private moorings, a major historic stopover on the South Pacific crossing.

Neiafu, on the well-sheltered harbour of Vava'u, is one of the five official customs ports of entry of the Kingdom of Tonga and the busiest cruising stopover in the Vava'u archipelago, on the classic South Pacific route between French Polynesia and New Zealand or Fiji. No marina berths: free anchoring and private moorings (mostly run by Beluga Diving) in Neiafu harbour and the archipelago's numbered anchorage areas, plus a customs wharf (poor condition, several reported incidents) where clearance must be completed. VHF 16 (call/distress) and 26 (local cruisers' net, repeater range ~40 nautical miles). The Boatyard Vava'u, a repair and haul-out yard, is based on the waterfront.
