Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust, a bird sanctuary inside a refinery estate

A private bird sanctuary set within an industrial estate in Trinidad, guided visit by direct reservation.

The Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust occupies a landscaped wetland within the Pointe-a-Pierre oil refinery estate, about an hour's drive from Chaguaramas. Founded in 1966 by naturalist Molly Gaskin and colleagues, the sanctuary recorded the first captive-bred scarlet ibis (Eudocimus ruber) hatching in 1991 and helped Trinidad and Tobago join the Ramsar Convention on wetlands in 1993. Access is through the industrial estate itself, by direct reservation via phone or email, outside any online ticketing. Sources: papwildfowltrust.org, Wikipedia article "Molly Gaskin".
