Established by the Royal Navy in 1725 in the neighbouring bay of English Harbour, Nelson's Dockyard takes its name from Captain Horatio Nelson, stationed there from 1784 to 1787. Restored from 1951 under Governor Kenneth Blackburne and opened to the public in 1961, the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016, listed as "Antigua Naval Dockyard and Related Archaeological Sites". It brings together Georgian naval buildings, careening wharves, trails and harbour viewpoints, open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
