At the entrance to English Harbour, facing Nelson's Dockyard, Fort Berkeley was built in 1704 on a narrow spit to defend access to the harbour. A free coastal trail links its remains to the Pillars of Hercules, volcanic rock pillars carved by sea erosion, reachable on foot or by tender from the anchorage. A public natural and historic site, with no booking and no professional required.
