Teva Victor, volcanic stone sculptor in Punaauia

In his Punaauia workshop, a short drive from the marina, sculptor Teva Victor works Polynesian volcanic stone by appointment.

Based in Punaauia since 2005, Teva Victor has been sculpting Polynesian volcanic stone (basalt) since 2001, after starting with wood at age 18. He receives visitors at his home workshop strictly by appointment (source: tevavictor.wixsite.com/tevavictor). His work has been acquired by several collectors, including Hollywood producer Joel Silver and Guy Laliberte, founder of Cirque du Soleil, according to local press (Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes, Tahiti Infos). One of his sculptures, honouring Queen Pomare IV, stands in the gardens of French Polynesia's territorial assembly in Papeete, the very piece shown in the photo. In his own words: "before working the stone, I place my hands on it to feel whether its energy is positive or negative" (Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes, 08/12/2015).
