Tamure Rhum, a family distillery in Papara

A family distillery on Tahiti's west coast, run by David Moux.

In Papara, on Tahiti's west coast, the family-run Tamure Rhum distillery is led by David Moux, assisted by his wife Hélène and their son Rony, according to Tahiti's tourist board (tahititourisme.com). According to the trade magazine Rumporter, a family episode sparked David Moux's interest in sugarcane: in 1980, his eldest son's high fever was treated with a traditional remedy (rā'au Tahiti) made from cane juice prepared by his grandmother, ten years before he took up distilling. The distillery offers a two-hour guided visit with hands-on workshops and tasting.
