Peter Island Resort, a wellness stop on a private island

A private island south of Tortola, Peter Island Resort opens its spa, beaches and yacht club to boats calling for the day, with no need to stay overnight.

Bought in 1968 by Norwegian shipowner Peter Smedvig, who launched the resort project, the island was turned into a private resort in the 1970s by Amway founders Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos, according to the estate's own history. Closed after Hurricane Irma in 2017, it reopened in 2024 after a six-year renovation. The resort's yacht club welcomes yachts up to 200 feet at the dock or on moorings around the island's bays, with day access to the spa, beaches and restaurants, separate from an overnight stay.
