Private Wreck Dive on the RMS Rhone

Minutes from Nanny Cay, the wreck of the RMS Rhone, now a national marine park and the setting for the film The Deep, is explored in small groups with the founders of the British Virgin Islands' oldest dive centre.

Based directly at Nanny Cay Marina since 1980, Blue Water Divers is the oldest dive centre in the British Virgin Islands, founded by brothers Mike "Muffy" and Keith Royle, both former shipboard diving instructors before settling ashore. The centre keeps a deliberately tight format, one outing a day and small groups, away from the area's larger dive operations. Its signature outing leads to the wreck of the RMS Rhone, a British mail steamer wrecked in 1867 off Salt Island, made a national marine park in 1980 and made famous by the 1977 film The Deep. Divers traditionally rub the wreck's "lucky porthole", a brass fitting that survived the storm intact.
