Domaine Tempier, the mourvedre reference in AOP Bandol

Thirty-eight hectares at the heart of the Bandol appellation, in the same family since 1834, and an estate bound up with the rise of mourvedre in Provence.

At Le Plan du Castellet, Domaine Tempier gathers thirty-eight hectares spread across several parcels between the sea and steep slopes, including the La Migoua, La Tourtine and Cabassaou terroirs. The property has been in the Tempier family since 1834 and won its first gold medal in 1885, driven by Leonie, who had the first cellar built. Lucien Peyraud, who led the estate from 1941 to 1982, is recognised there as the precursor of mourvedre, the grape that now defines the Bandol appellation.

The estate has a tasting room and sells directly on site. A visit lends itself to a quiet approach, focused on reading the parcels and the vintages rather than on entertainment. The site is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. From La Ciotat it makes a short inland excursion into the Var hinterland.
