Off Cap Chevalier, at the southern tip of Martinique, the regional nature reserve of the Sainte-Anne islets and Ilet Chevalier groups four ornithological islets (Hardy, Perce, Burgaux and Poirier), Ilet Chevalier itself (a former strombolian volcano with rocky relief, covered in xerophilic shrub and cactus vegetation) and the mangrove of Baie des Anglais. Managed by the Parc naturel regional de la Martinique, the reserve is one of the main seabird breeding sites in the Lesser Antilles: five species breed there from December to September. Baie des Anglais, notable for its mangrove and seagrass beds, is the subject of a project to extend the protected area. A boat visit allows you to skirt the islets and discover the trail around Ilet Chevalier, without landing outside authorised zones, to protect the nesting bird colonies.
