A twenty-minute drive from Vuda Marina, Vanua Chocolate is presented by Fiji's tourist board (fiji.travel) as the country's first bean-to-bar chocolate factory. Its founder, Arif Khan, was fascinated as a child by yellow cocoa pods, at a time when the industry was a pillar of Fijian exports, halted by the 1987 coup; he later revived cocoa growing in Fiji. Cacao Fiji was named among the "50 Best cocoas in the world" at the 2015 International Cocoa Awards, according to an interview with its founder.
