Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club was formed in 2017 through the merger of two clubs founded separately in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: the Auckland Golf Club (1894) and the Grange Golf Club (1924, originally named the Otahuhu Golf Club). In 2010, Queen Elizabeth II granted the club the right to use the title "Royal". The course has hosted the New Zealand Open seven times between 1924 and 2004, and the inaugural ISPS HANDA Japan-Australasia Championship in 2026. A private club that, by its own account, deliberately limits the number of outside groups it takes each year, access for a non member group is arranged directly with the club rather than through open online booking.
