The port
Fiji's historic cyclone-refuge marina, opened in 1996, famous for its unique cyclone-pit storage system.
The oldest continuously operating marina in western Fiji, opened in May 1996 after being conceived in the early 1990s by five friends who saw no full commercial marina infrastructure in the region (only the Musket Cove moorings and the commercial port of Lautoka existed at the time). Purpose-built from the start to withstand cyclones. Around 78 wet berths, reached through a 25 m-wide reef channel, minimum draft 2.5 m in the channel and 3 m in the basin. World-renowned for its unique "cyclone pit" storage system (up to 80 pits, dug and rubber-lined, keel lowered in and hull cushioned by tyres) letting monohulls safely ride out cyclone season (1 November-30 April); multihulls use a hardstand tie-down system. Travel lift up to 63 tons and a Roodberg hydraulic multihull trailer (47 tons, bought new in September 2025), the only facility in Fiji able to lift catamarans and trimarans.
