National sailing authority of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (World Sailing Member National Authority, code VIN), founded in 2014. Runs the national championships and the SVGSA Christmas Regatta, held notably at Blue Lagoon Marina.

History

Founded in 2014 on the initiative of Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, a keen sailor, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association (SVGSA) originally brought together three founding clubs: Bequia Youth Sailors, Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy and Canouan Gum Boat Club. The first executive committee was chaired by Eddie Brown (Bequia Youth Sailors), with Albert Ollivierre (Canouan Gum Boat Club) as vice-chair, Samatha Lavia (Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy) as treasurer and Louise Mitchell Joseph as secretary. After several years of low-key operation, Louise Mitchell organised a general meeting in late 2020 that led to the election of a new executive committee. To mark this relaunch, the first SVGSA Christmas Regatta was held at Blue Lagoon Marina, bringing together more than 35 young sailors. The association is affiliated to World Sailing as a Member National Authority (MNA code: VIN), as well as to the national Olympic committee of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the National Sports Council. It runs national championships and youth national championships each year; the 2022 national championships were held at Blue Lagoon Hotel and Marina, with racing in Calliaqua Bay.
