Blue Lagoon Marina

Calliaqua, Saint Vincent, VC

The port

Saint Vincent's main yachting and charter hub, in the sheltered Blue Lagoon facing Young Island.

Blue Lagoon, on Saint Vincent's south coast near Calliaqua, is the main gateway for yachting and charter in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The anchorage and marina sit in a well-sheltered lagoon, closed off by the small islet of Young Island. Local legend traces the islet's name to the 18th century: British governor Sir William Young reportedly gave a white horse to Carib chief Joseph Chatoyer, who gave him this small island in return. Turned into a resort by John Houser (Hilton group), it has belonged since 1980 to local operators Vidal Browne and Sir Frederick Ballantyne. Blue Lagoon became Saint Vincent's yachting hub thanks to Barefoot Yacht Charters, a charter company founded in 1991 by the mother of current owner Philip Barnard, whose family has sailed these waters since his grandfather arrived in the archipelago in 1902; the company still maintains around thirty moorings in the lagoon for visiting yachts. A classic starting point for cruises to Bequia, Mustique, Canouan and the Tobago Cays.
