Founded in 1920 as the Compagnia della Vela, based at Sanremo's Molo Nord. More than 3,000 sailors reached per year, a sailing school since 1958, accredited by the Italian sailing federation since 1961.

History

Founded in 1920 as the Compagnia della Vela, the club merged in 1930 with the Lega Navale Italiana, was re-established in 1947, and took the name Yacht Club Sanremo in 1956 while keeping its original burgee. Based at Sanremo's Molo Nord, the club reaches more than 3,000 sailors a year and has run a sailing school since 1958 (accredited by the Italian sailing federation since 1961). In 1953 it helped found the Giraglia, which has become a classic Mediterranean offshore race, and since 1986 it has organized the Optimist International Meeting (Trophée Dino Minaglia) as well as the West Liguria Winter Championship since 1981. The club has also hosted world, European and Italian championships across several classes, including the L30 Class World Championship and the Dragon Winter Series, confirming a stated international reach. Yacht Club Sanremo collaborates with the neighbouring Portosole marina to host large fleets during its international events, without being physically based there.
