La Reserve de Beaulieu began in 1880 as a seafood restaurant run by Nice restaurateur Pierre Lottier, who named the house after the large basin used to keep the local fishermen's catch. The address became a luxury hotel in 1905. According to the hotel, Gordon Bennett, owner of the New York Herald and patron of motor racing, had the establishment's first private telephone installed there, an episode the hotel bar is named after today. The current spa, open daily, has only five treatment rooms and works exclusively with Swiss skincare house La Prairie. The hotel's own website lists a dedicated booking line for guests from outside the hotel.
