In Menton's old town, Maison Herbin carries on an artisan jam making tradition entirely focused on the citrus of the Menton countryside. The jams are cooked in small quantities in copper pans, a slow method that preserves the taste and colour of the fruit. The Menton lemon is the signature product, alongside orange, red fruits, flower jellies, liqueurs and condiments. The house holds the Living Heritage Company label.
The visit takes place in the workshop itself, in the heart of the narrow streets. Visitors follow the work of the jam makers, from preparing the fruit to filling the jars, and taste the production at the end. Groups are received. The workshop stands a few minutes on foot from the old port, which makes it a short, simple stop within a day ashore.
