Good to know
North America offers two boating seasons that take over from each other: winter in Florida, where yachts coming down from the north-east coast gather, and summer on the north-east coast, from New England to the Canadian Maritimes. Newport, Rhode Island, hosted the America's Cup from 1930 to 1983 and remains one of the historic capitals of American sailing.
- The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November.
- The Intracoastal Waterway is an inland waterway running along the east coast, allowing the coastline to be followed sheltered from the open sea.
- Larger yachts traditionally migrate between Florida (winter) and New England (summer).
