Fort Royal on Sainte-Marguerite Island

A Vauban-type fort listed as a historic monument off Cannes, home to the state prisons and the Iron Mask museum. Two rooms and a sea-facing terrace can be taken privately.

On Sainte-Marguerite, the nearer of the two Lerins islands, the Iron Mask and Fort Royal museum occupies the oldest part of a Vauban-type fort, listed as a historic monument and fringed with pines and eucalyptus. The ground floor holds the state prisons and the cell known as the Iron Mask's; the Roman cisterns and the upper floor hold the underwater and land archaeology collections. The museum carries the Musee de France designation.

The City of Cannes allows two first-floor rooms to be taken privately, opening directly onto a terrace facing the Cannes shoreline, from the southern Alps to Cap d'Antibes and the Esterel. As a listed site, it provides no equipment: catering, furniture, lighting and sound are the organiser's responsibility, subject to the museum's agreement and to a safety commission inspection.
