Formerly Villa Fiesole, the house was built in 1934 on land bought at the foot of the Californie hillside. The painter Jean-Gabriel Domergue designed its Italianate architecture and its decoration down to the smallest detail; his wife, a sculptor, laid out the terraced gardens with their pools and cascades. Odette Maudrange-Domergue bequeathed the property to the City of Cannes in 1973, and the house has been listed as a historic monument since 1990.
This is not a museum open on a continuous basis. It opens for guided visits and for prestige events, and the City of Cannes allows it to be made available for private receptions, listing it among its prestige venues. Interior salons, the painter's studio and the stepped gardens form an intimate whole, minutes from the Cannes quays. The single point of contact is the City's events department.
