The port
At the mouth of the Penfeld, beneath Brest Castle, the Marina du Château offers 700 berths, including 140 for visiting yachts, within the sheltered roadstead.
The Marina du Château sits at the mouth of the Penfeld river, at the foot of Brest Castle, and is the first marina encountered in the sheltered Brest roadstead. It benefits from the natural protection of the neighbouring naval base, within one of the largest natural harbours in Europe. Its position right in the city centre places it a short walk from the Halles Saint-Louis market and the historic Recouvrance district.
The marina offers 700 floating berths on cat-ways, 140 of which are reserved for visiting boats, with additional mooring along the La Pérouse breakwater for larger yachts. Pontoons are fitted with water and electricity points, a blackwater pump-out station, and a haul-out area open from October to mid-June. The harbour office on Quai Éric Tabarly welcomes crews until 7.45pm in summer.
Moored beneath the ramparts of Brest Castle, home to the National Navy Museum, sailors can reach the city centre, its shops and restaurants on foot. The marina offers free Wi-Fi, bicycle and trolley loans, as well as showers and a laundry.
The marina has become the favourite meeting point for leading ocean racers and regularly serves as the start or finish line for offshore racing record attempts, earning it its local nickname, the "port des records" (the port of records).
