The port
A 1,300-berth marina on the Côte Vermeille in the Mediterranean, specialised in multihulls and home to an industrial nautical cluster active since 1997.
The port of Canet-en-Roussillon lies on the Côte Vermeille, in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, in the Occitanie region of France. Opening onto the Gulf of Lion and located within the Golfe du Lion Marine Nature Park, it gives access to the Mediterranean Sea from the Promenade de la Côte Vermeille, in the heart of the town of Canet-en-Roussillon.
The marina offers 1,300 berths spread over a 25-hectare water area, with a maximum draft of 3.5 metres and a maximum vessel length of 49 metres. Facilities include a careening area and a slipway able to take vessels up to 100 feet and 200 tonnes, a fuel station (SP95 petrol and diesel), water and electricity on quays and pontoons, and showers and laundry facilities. The marina is surrounded by a nautical cluster bringing together around forty companies and roughly fifty marine professionals.
Specialised in welcoming multihulls, the port of Canet-en-Roussillon is home to one of the largest sailing clubs in the Pyrénées-Orientales department and regularly hosts regattas, including international competitions. Its quays also bring together a notable concentration of classic sailing vessels on the French coastline. On land, the harbourside promenade offers restaurants, bike and vehicle rental, event spaces and wifi access. The port has held the Qualité Plaisance certification (5 rings) since 2019.
According to the history published by the port's operator, the earliest developments date back to the early 1960s, when two local associations, the Sport Nautique Canétois and the Groupement des Pêcheurs Professionnels, joined forces to build a port out of Le Gouffre, a former arm of the Têt river. The company SPORCAP was founded in 1966 to build and manage the site. In 1997, the arrival of the Catana shipyard, described by the port's operator as the world's second-largest catamaran builder, gave rise to an industrial nautical cluster that today brings together around forty companies. Since 2011, the port has been managed by the Société Publique Locale Sillages.
