The port
Thailand's first full-service marina, opened in 1994 in the circular basin of a former tidal creek at Ko Kaew, at the heart of Phuket's main yachting service hub.
The circular basin of Phuket Boat Lagoon occupies the former bed of Klong Tha Rua, a tidal creek that served as the island's main port before Phuket Town was founded by Chinese tin miners more than a century ago. In 1994, entrepreneur Khun Kanit Yongsakul dammed the stream and dug the basin to a depth of five metres before reopening its entrance to the sea, creating what the official website describes as Thailand's first full-service marina.
The marina now offers 180 wet berths with power and water, 160 hardstand spaces and 24 dry-stack bays, for vessels up to 32 metres. An on-site repair yard, equipped with several travel lifts, serves the berths directly. Radio contact with the Harbour Master is on VHF channel 71 (channel 67 is also listed by the official website).
