Good to know

In the Caribbean, a yacht club is often much more than a racing society: several clubs in the zone also serve as the national sailing authority recognised by World Sailing for their island or territory, responsible for national championships and Olympic qualification, alongside a youth sailing school.

  • The Royal BVI Yacht Club, the Sint Maarten Yacht Club and the St Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association combine the role of sailing club and national sailing authority.
  • Most of the zone's major regattas (Antigua Sailing Week, the BVI Spring Regatta, the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta) are organised by the local yacht club rather than an independent committee.
