Good to know

Younger and more focused on teaching than on prestige, the Atlantic coast first saw sailing schools before some of them grew into racing societies: many clubs in the zone still run both activities side by side, a sailing school year-round and racing in season.

  • Several clubs in the zone were born from the merger of a historic racing society and a sailing school, such as La Rochelle Nautique (Société des Régates Rochelaises, 1860, and École de Voile Rochelaise, merged in 2021).
  • The ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), which links the Canaries to the Caribbean every year on the trade winds, is an offshore cruising tradition dating back to 1986 that indirectly involves several departure ports on the coast.
