The port
Saint-Tropez's landmark marina lies at the heart of the village on the Cote d'Azur, offering close to 800 berths across two basins.
Port de Saint-Tropez sits at the heart of the village, in the commune of Saint-Tropez, in the Var department, in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region. Opening onto the Mediterranean, it lies at the foot of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, facing the gulf of the same name and the first slopes of the Maures massif. Its position, right in the middle of the village, makes it a natural crossing point for boaters and visitors strolling along its quays.
Covering around 9 hectares, the port is made up of two basins, the old and the new, and offers close to 800 berths for vessels of all sizes. It includes the Mole d'Estienne-d'Orves, reserved for yachts over 50 metres long, making it a regular port of call for large pleasure vessels cruising the Mediterranean. The harbour office welcomes crews and manages berthing throughout the year.
The quays lining the port are lively year round with cafes, restaurants and boutiques, offering a fine vantage point over the classic sailboats and contemporary yachts moored side by side. The port also serves as a natural starting point for the coves and beaches nearby, as well as for the old village and its narrow streets. It hosts several well known nautical events, including Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, a regatta that brings together traditional sailboats and contemporary yachts every year.
The port's origins are said to trace back to the Phocaean era, around 600 BC, under the name Athenopolis, around the time ancient Marseille was founded. Long a port for fishing, trade and shipbuilding, it was transformed into a major hub of international yachting in the mid 20th century. The 1956 filming of And God Created Woman, starring Brigitte Bardot, on the quays of Saint-Tropez, played a large part in bringing the village and its port to the attention of pleasure boaters from around the world.
